Hello, world. As news spreads about George Floyd, yet another black man who was murdered by police officers in Minneapolis, it is difficult to not feel hopeless. Not to mention, the recent murders of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless other black people targeted by the police. The United States was founded on this brutal and persistent disregard for black life and continues to use it to oppress and murder black people today.

Knowing how stressful, depressing, confusing, and heartbreaking this is for much of the black community, I have compiled a list of online therapeutic resources for black people that can be helpful in the midst of all of this. Be gentle with yourselves and take care.

Online Counseling

"Our mission is to remove the barriers that Black people experience getting access to or staying connected with emotional health care and healing. We do this through education, training, advocacy and the creative arts."
"So often the stigma surrounding mental health issues and therapy prevents Black women from taking the step of seeing a therapist. This space was developed to present mental health topics in a way that feels more accessible and relevant."
"In partnership with licensed mental health professionals and coaches in private practice throughout the fifty states, TherapyForBlackMen.org provides proactive, multiculturally competent care to men of color."
"BLHF has launched the COVID-19 Free Virtual Therapy Support Campaign to raise money for mental health services provided by licensed clinicians in our network. Individuals with life-changing stressors and anxiety related to the coronavirus will have the cost for up to five (5) individual sessions defrayed on a first come, first serve basis until all funds are committed or exhausted."

Podcasts

"'Celeste The Therapist' focuses on ways to shift your mindset and change your thought process."
"Naming It features Bay Area Psychologists, Dr. Bedford Palmer & Dr. LaMisha Hill, who explore the intersections of Social Justice, Psychology, & Blackness."
"The weekly conversation about men and mental health, social issues, racial inequity and the many other contributing issues plaguing society."
"A weekly podcast dedicated to bringing light into darkness (just like the fireflies) by sharing the stories of individuals thriving with mental health conditions despite the disadvantages and racism that negatively impact their mental health."

Applications

"Are you facing a new challenge, dealing with life's ups and downs, or exploring a next step in your life? Then download Elevate and get motivational content that will inspire you to be successful in every part of your life."
