At a time where we are undergoing a global pandemic, stuck in quarantine, and still having to proceed with most of our daily responsibilities, we are called to set our priorities straight––what in our lives truly matter?

Hello, world! This is an incredibly difficult time, isn’t it? I especially feel for all of my students out there. Being sent home and having to do online classes is definitely not something that we signed up for when we entered the semester. Having to be okay with your home environment in order to do your school work is definitely not something that you agreed to.

It’s easy to feel as though you are responsible for every slip-up that you have with school work. I sometimes have the thought that I must meet the rest of the semester with the same amount of dedication that I had before this drastic change of events. However, I invite us all to acknowledge that this is anything but normal ol’ school time. One can not expect themself to continue on as if everything is normal in the name of being academically consistent while the world is in shambles around them.

This is a crucial time to take a step back and realize where your own well-being comes in your list of priorities. Do you prioritize your academic performance over your self-care? When was the last time you recognized your feelings and focused on yourself?

When we overwork ourselves at times when self-care is needed most, we become detached from ourselves and begin to forget our self-worth. In these crazy times, it’s important to not only check on yourself, but care, respect, and love yourself. Respect your limits. Tell your professors if you are having a difficult time completing your work–your struggles are incredibly valid. See this quarantine for what it is, with all of its painful parts! This is you time. Honor yourself and your needs. Muah!
